Achieving CMMI ML2 and Next Steps

When I joined LIST in 2008, I wanted to implement a Project Management Program that would help LIST continue to deliver on their core value of providing Business Solutions through Technology Innovation.  As a Project Management Professional (PMP) that has managed dozens of complex IT project for private and public sector clients, I have experienced different project management programs of which most fell short through the over engineering of methodologies, tool, and procedures.  My vision was to implement a Project Management Program that was based on industry best practices; was easy to understand; used collaborative Web 2.0 technology; and added real value for project management team members and customers.

Fast forward 2 years later to present time and I’m pleased to announce that LIST has successfully executed on the vision we charted two years ago.  Using Microsoft SharePoint as the delivery platform, LIST has developed a Virtual Project Operations Center (VPOC) to create agile business processes through a consistent user experience that simplifies how LIST Project Teams interact with project management best practices, processes, and business data. We developed web-based tools to initiate, track, and report on common Project Management activities such as project planning, project execution, project tracking and control, risk management, configuration management, and sub contractor management.  We tightly integrated our VPOC with familiar client applications (MS Outlook and Excel) to provide an easy to use, consistent environment to increase efficiency and user adoption.

Using Web 2.0 features, we created collaborative workspaces for project teams to use in their day to day lives to effectively organize and share information and ideas.   Performance measures are collected, tracked, and published to share information about business-critical data through dashboards, Web Parts, scorecards, key performance indicators (KPIs), and business data connectivity technologies.

LIST’s product roadmap for VPOC includes the incorporation of customers into project-specific VPOC portals to increase transparency and management of projects and greater use of collaboration and knowledge management tools as LIST pursues CMMI ML3.

Team In Training is the world’s largest endurance sports training program.  The program is unparalleled in training people from first timers to seasoned athletes to achieve their best at walking or running marathons and half marathons, triathlons and century (100 mile) bike rides in honor of blood cancer patients and survivors.  Last year, Team LIST raised over $30,000 through America’s Most Beautiful Ride which was a 100 mile ride in Lake Tahoe, CA.  We are looking to increase participation and raise even more money this year so get off of the couch, get in shape, make some new friends, and do something good for such a worthy cause.
